Abstract
  • The purpose of this study is to expand on the existing literature on Latina ways of knowing. Using a Chicana feminist perspective and mujerista perspective (Villenas et al., 2006), this study centers the lived experiences and narratives of two Latina mothers living in a small college town in North Carolina. This is a study on relationships--specifically the relationships between, Alma and Blanca1, their respective children, and their communities. Using these two case studies, this thesis focuses on how Alma and Blanca operationalize confianza and as well as outlines how convivencia, respeto, and cariño serve as important pillars of establishing and maintaining confianza.
