Abstract
  • Video games and videos of video games are incredibly popular among young people – particularly children. For this reason, video games are commonly utilized by extremist groups in their propaganda. This study examines the different ways right-wing extremist content creators use visual video game motifs and audio manipulations within their propaganda on the website BitChute. The common techniques show that the difference between an innocent and a potentially radicalizing video game video is subtle. A parent or guardian cannot readily determine the innocent of a video their child is watching at a glance. Instead, this study aims to call attention to certain aspects of the video that should be flagged for a closer look.
