  • My thesis examines the Chinese Dream, as articulated by Xi Jinping, and the ways in which the Chinese Communist Party has facilitated an expansionist shift in Chinese nationalism over the past thirty years. It highlights how this change can be observed on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. My research focuses primarily on the political narrative surrounding the territorial disputes in the East and South China Seas, and the role of history in cultivating expansionist Chinese nationalism. I have incorporated many Weibo posts that utilize historic mobilization language to foster expansionist and pro-military feelings to further the goals of the Chinese Dream, and describe the various ways in which the CCP has limited forms of online dissent and challenges to its official narrative of history.
