Abstract
  • Objective: To investigate the effect of maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index on maternal morbidity in the United States.Methods: Maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index was categorized as follow: underweight (<18.5), normal (18.5-24.9), overweight (25.0-29.9), and obesity (≥30). The odds ratio (OR) and 95% CIs of maternal morbidity by pre-pregnancy BMI were estimated by multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models.Results: There were 355 cases of maternal morbidity. Compared with obese women, the adjusted ORs (95%CIs) for maternal morbidity in underweight, normal, and overweight women were 0.47 (0.21- 1.08), 1.00 (0.78-1.30), 0.81(0.60-1.08) respectively.Conclusion: Obese women had the highest maternal morbidity.
