  • In the winter of 2022, I traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico to document the stories of immigrant restaurateurs. Over a month, I connected with seven restaurant and market owners and documented their stories through interviews and photographs. In these interviews, we began by discussing their relationships with the food served in their businesses. By focusing on food, I gained insights into questions like: How did they assert themselves in new environments as immigrants? How have they manifested their philosophies in their food businesses and personal lives? Ultimately, my goal in this project was to investigate and document the human stories behind these restaurants and markets.
