- Abstract
- Over the past nine decades, archivists have described the manuscript collections in Wilson Special Collections Library and produced a rich body of expository text, tens of thousands of pages long if printed from the electronic files. The problem with this large, living text is that it is filled with the language of white privilege that tolerates inequity and is indifferent to the exclusions, silences, and white supremacist world view archivists have unwittingly perpetuated. The University Library’s conscious editing initiative seeks to repair that language and to bring diverse stories to the surface both for those searching for ancestors and those seeking an unvarnished and fuller understanding of our nation’s past and present.
