Play to Heal: Supporting Children's Development and Health Internationally

Abstract

For my Burch Fellowship, I traveled to the UK to collaborate with the PEDAL Centre at the University of Cambridge researching the intersection of children’s play and health. I also had the privilege of visiting Copenhagen, Denmark, where I met with some of the most insightful developmental psychologists, non-profit leaders, and educational strategists globally. Through contributing to a positive behavior study's data collection, assisting with ethnographic research on play in the medical setting, conversing with the Danish psychologists, and even touring a Danish kindergarten (where they taught responsibility to children through chicken care!), I was able to learn more about how play can mitigate childhood psychopathology and support children enduring adversity around the world.
