Abstract
  • The collective purchasing organization, Opioid Safety and Naloxone Network (OSNN) Buyers Club, provides over half of all community-based naloxone distributed in the country and is able to do so at a 30x lower cost than retail nasal spray. But, dwindling supply of the overdose reversal antidote is currently forcing community-based programs to heavily ration. The projected shortfall for 2021 is 1 million naloxone doses. We estimate 12,000 to 18,000 avoidance overdose deaths. In this white paper, we provide a summary about the OSNN Buyers Club purchasing patterns and the estimated toll of the naloxone shortage.
