Bikes recovered by the Chapel Hill Police Department stack up in a trailer behind the station.  Bikes are to be kept at least 60 days before they are sold or moved away.  However, most bikes are kept 90 to 120 days.  Since online auctioning of recovered bikes has started and replaced the physical annual bike auctions, the trailers have been less full.  Many of the bikes are shipped off for storage in other places since online auctioning has begun. Online auctioning of bikes can be found at propertyroom.com or govdeals.com.
