Abstract
  • Many college and university campuses are among the most beautiful places in the nation. Students, faculty, and visitors walk onto such campuses and immediately feel a sense of place. The natural setting, architectural design, arrangement of buildings, open space, and landscaping together create an inviting and supportive atmosphere for the community of learning that school represents. This atmosphere does not happen by accident. The most beautiful and functional campuses have been carefully planned to achieve their goals. The most fortunate institutions adopted a campus planning process early in their history, and have followed and modified it as necessary, through years of expansion.
