- Abstract
- This study describes a survey conducted with undergraduates, graduates, and alumni of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the Spring semester of 2010. The study investigates race-based cyber-hate within online social networking sites with a particular focus on that of online social networks that allow anonymity from its users. The study examines the beliefs and experiences of the respondents as it relates to racism within American society as a whole as well as within online social networking sites. While 33.45% of the respondents reported that they have been exposed to racism of some sort on online networks, the percentage of minorities who responded was much higher.
