- Abstract
- White (2006) argues that the Conservative is not committed to the legitimacy of the bootstrapping procedure. Weisberg (2010) presents a case in which the Conservative apparently is committed to the legitimacy of the bootstrapping procedure. I argue here that Weisberg’s case depends essentially upon the rejection of a Bayesian picture of evidence and the related misuse of an otherwise plausible principle. As a result, Weisberg’s example does not achieve its purported goal, and the Conservative can avoid bootstrapping by adhering to Bayesian principles of evidence.
