"Portable Comedy Club" literally sets the stage for many of my pieces. I wanted to make a space for comedy that fit in my studio but could also be moved to other locations. The mobility allowing me to make just about any location a comedy venue. It is a sculptural representation of a typical stand up comedy venue, but stylized. It is absurdly small, barely big enough for one performer, however it has everything necessary. It contains all the major elements that make up the visual vernacular of traditional stand up comedy: a stage, a brick wall (albeit quite stylized) for the comic to stand in front of, a microphone and stand, a functional PA sound system, and the iconic stool. In various incarnations this would provide the backdrop of many of my performances and video works.
