- Abstract
- This paper takes a look at the way in which small town life is presented on stage in the following plays: Thornton Wilder's Our Town(1938), William Inge's Come Back, Little Sheba(1950), Michael Stewart, Lee Adams, and Charles Strouse's Bye Bye Birdie(1960), Beth Henley's Crimes of the Heart(1981), and Tracy Letts' August: Osage County(2007). The main themes of particular interest are family, society, and the outsider and the ways in which they make up the small town narrative present on the stage.
