- Abstract
- There are many hazards faced by veterinary health care workers. In this paper, the worker population was identified and defined, the economic and legislative context impacting this workforce was explored, and a literature review was conducted to outline the current state of occupational health and safety practices in organizations employing veterinary health workers. The literature review considered the five categories of occupational hazards (biological, chemical, enviromechanical, physical, and psychosocial), and identified the many occupational environments including work practices, work tasks, and common materials. The purpose of this research was to explore the occupational hazards in the veterinary workplace and develop a survey tool to further expand knowledge related to these hazards, as well as identify the characteristics and attitudes of this worker population regarding work-related hazards.
