  • How do we attract more teens to the library profession? A lively, colorful library guide designed with this population in mind may help. When a high school student wanted more information about library careers, academic health sciences librarians discovered there wasn’t one single resource designed for teens that had all the needed information. They created a library guide to gather these scattered resources in one place. Librarians researched website design for teens and gathered information about library and information science professions as well as resources on cool, fun, and awesome things about libraries. The result is an illuminating look at librarians and libraries that breaks the stereotype of a shushing, bun-clad librarian. Educating this high school student about the library field also led librarians to create a career day experience for the student involving talks with a diverse selection of librarians across campus. While the guide is aimed at teenagers, it is fun and informative for librarians and library supporters of all ages and career stages. This presentation will share the details of this project and include thoughts about moving forward.
