- Abstract
- A sample of citizens of Orange County, North Carolina were surveyed on behalf of the Orange County Commissioners and the Orange County Public Library for two purposes: to determine the public's response to proposed new services, and to discover reasons for non-use of the library in order to develop new opportunities to reach those who are not currently being served. The results of the survey demonstrate a keen interest on the part of respondents in more computer and Internet training. Other services that were supported by respondents include remote searching of the library catalog and expanded Internet access. In order to attract new patrons, the study recommends that the library continue to strengthen technology and children's services, concentrate efforts on publicizing the "information center" aspect of the library, and consider expanding service to underserved areas, notably the northern part of the county.
