- Abstract
- Implantable glucose sensors that continuously monitor blood/tissue glucose concentrations would help alleviate the challenges associated with blood glucose management for diabetics. Release of nitric oxide (NO), a potent biological gas, into the tissue surrounding an implantable device is a viable way to lower tissue inflammation, encourage local wound healing, and ultimately improve in vivo glucose sensor performance. However, simultaneously achieving optimal analytical performance of the sensor and NO-release properties is challenging because the application of a NO-releasing membrane diminishes sensor sensitivity.
