An Evaluation of UNC-CH One ACT and One ACT for Greeks Bystander Intervention Trainings

- This paper evaluates UNC-Chapel Hill’s One ACT and One ACT for Greeks trainings. These trainings empower undergraduate peer educators to teach fellow students bystander skills to intervene in interpersonal violence situations. This paper uses random effects and differences in differences models to evaluate changes in confidence to intervene as a bystander, reported likelihood to intervene as a bystander, and missed opportunities to intervene as a bystander for 1,422 training participants before and after the training for program years 2013-2017. The results show that after participating in One ACT and One ACT for Greeks trainings respondents report significant improvements in bystander confidence, reported likelihood to intervene, and missed bystander intervention behaviors pre-test to post-test. There are not significant differences in these outcomes for One ACT versus One ACT for Greeks respondents. This paper also explores how these outcomes vary by race/ethnicity. Finally, this paper summarizes programmatic and policy recommendations based on these results.
