- Abstract
- Outpatient oncology nurses are often underrepresented in research studies focused on preventing compassion fatigue and promoting healthy grieving. To determine what evidence-based interventions exist for outpatient nurses caring for cancer patients to maintain their own well-being, a search of recently published research was conducted. Six relevant studies were reviewed and revealed a significant gap in the literature regarding how best to prevent compassion fatigue in outpatient oncology nurses. Future studies should use rigorously designed randomized controlled trials to determine best practice to preserve physical and mental health in the outpatient oncology nursing population.
